HP seeks partnerships for major cloud play

Mon, 4th Apr 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

HP chief Léo Apotheker (pictured) will look to partner with other companies in an attempt to make HP a major player in cloud computing.

Speaking to an audience of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists at HP's Palo Alto headquarters for an OnDemand 2011 conference, Apotheker said, "We can't do it all by ourself. HP wants to have a dialog with everyone in this room."

The CEO said that HP was targeting the area of ‘big data’ and analytics software but added that he’s not necessarily looking to buy big tech companies.

He also ruled out buying his previous employer, SAP.

"I would much rather have a strong partnership with them,” he said. "Big doesn't always move the needle. Smart moves the needle."

Last month, Apotheker outlined a new strategy for the company that involved taking HP’s software business and expanding it into the cloud.
