Imagine Cup - New Zealand makes final six

Wed, 7th Jul 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Last week Vinny Kumar, Team Leader for Team OneBeep, told IT Brief that the University of Auckland team had a realistic chance of winning Microsoft’s Imagine Cup at the global finals in Poland this week.

Microsoft New Zealand has just dropped us a line to say that Team OneBeep has made it to the final six. The top six teams were whittled down from 68 from around the world.

Team OneBeep created an inexpensive solution of sending educational content to laptops in under developed countries where there are no phone lines or internet access. The solution uses software to package data up as audio that can then be received on any AM/FM radio, which is then converted back to its original form on a laptop.

Today sees Team OneBeep having to present its solution to an audience of 1400 at the Opera House and the winner will be announced on July 8th.

We’ll let you know.
