FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Asia Pacific branch of the Fibre to the Home council is holding its general meeting in Auckland this week.

President Y K Loke says there is considerable interest among Council members in the New Zealand government’s Ultra Fast Broadband initiative.

"New networks to be built in Singapore, New Zealand and Australia will further increase the telecommunications advantage that Asia Pacific enjoys," he says.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Vector are among the organisations presenting to the Council at a special session today.

Vector chief executive Simon Mackenzie says the meeting is an opportunity to discuss the benefits and challenges of delivering fibre broadband with members of the world renowned, non-profit organisation.

“It is testament to the fibre momentum gathering throughout New Zealand that a well regarded international organisation has chosen Auckland as its meeting venue,” he says. “The Asia Pacific region is vitally important for New Zealand’s future prosperity.” Loke says Asia Pacific countries are leading the world in Fibre to the Home subscribers, with rollouts in Japan and South Korea, and most recently China.
