FYI, this story is more than a year old

Microsoft puts its hands in its pockets for social media-led competition based around the IE8 Web Slice application.

To be in with a chance of winning a $250 Prezzy Card all you have to use Internet Explorer 8 and install the ‘Slice of Kevin' Web Slice. Then you need to look out for your chance to enter, Microsoft has said.

A Web Slice “helps you keep an eye on updates from your favourite sites” with an icon resting in your Favourites bar that becomes bold when there's a new update.

The Kiwi exclusive competition is interactive and fronted by Explorer Kev, who is said to tip players off on the best times to enter via updates on Twitter and Facebook.

Ben Green, Windows Business Group Lead for Microsoft New Zealand, said the competition will provide a simple way to show off the convenience of Web Slices. "Web Slices are a great way to keep up to date with your favourite websites. They're perfect for keeping an eye on all those important things like cricket scores at www.blackcaps.co.nz, the latest news headlines or even Facebook updates - all without having to switch out of the website you're currently viewing."
