Keep Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'... 2degrees launches 4G in Hamilton
Thu, 25th Sep 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

2degrees has further extended its 4G coverage to Hamilton, now bringing LTE to the country’s four largest cities.

4G can theoretically deliver data speeds of up to 150Mbps – more than 10 times faster than standard 3G connections – meaning all 2degrees customers with 4G compatible devices will get faster mobile connectivity.

The launch of 4G in Hamilton means 2degrees’ LTE network now has coverage in the country’s four largest cities by population size including Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland with more to follow.

4G services will cover Beerescourt, Chartwell, Chedworth Park, Claudelands, Enderley, Fairfield, Forest Lake, Frankton, Hamilton Central, Hillcrest, Maeroa, Pukete, Silverdale, St Andrews and Whitiora.

2degrees’ Chief Technology Officer Mike Davies says 2degrees’ 4G rollout is running well ahead of schedule and customer demand for 4G network capability is high.

“The first stage of our rollout has been achieved well ahead of schedule and the rollout to NZ’s other cities and towns will begin earlier than expected," he says.

“With the rise in connectivity and exploding demand for data services like video, music streaming, online access and mobile gaming, 4G opens up a whole new world of opportunity for our customers.

"Whilst data usage on our network has continued to double each year, we have seen a significant increase since we launched 4G in June with 4G customers using 70% more data on an average day compared to those using 3G.

"Meanwhile we continue to trial other technology to support our customers’ ever increasing demand for data including a WIFI trial in Wellington and a 4G trial on 700MHz in central Auckland.”

Access to 2degrees’ 4G network will be at no additional cost and will operate with all existing 2degrees customer’s current data allocations.
