LearningPlanet launches Maia AI coach for workplace learning

LearningPlanet has launched Maia, an AI coach on its workplace learning platform, and the tool is now available to users.

Maia is designed to answer employee questions with a one-sentence key idea, a focus point on what to do next, and a list of related videos for further learning. The feature is aimed at workers seeking quick guidance during tasks, meetings, or conversations, rather than through longer training sessions.

The Auckland-based learning provider distributes microlearning soft skills video content to more than 4,000 organisations across 160 countries. Its library is built around one-minute and 10-minute videos, which Maia uses to suggest follow-up material.

LearningPlanet is positioning the product around a familiar workplace problem: staff often need help at the point of work but do not have time to search through courses or complete longer modules. Instead, Maia returns short responses intended to be read in seconds, with optional deeper material for users who want more context.

The approach reflects a broader shift in corporate training towards shorter formats and on-demand access. Employers have increasingly looked for ways to fit learning into working days shaped by back-to-back meetings, fragmented schedules, and immediate operational demands.

The tool also links guidance to task-setting inside the platform. Employees can create self-assignments from Maia's recommendations, while managers can assign the same learning prompts to team members when they identify a skills gap.

The aim is to connect a question with a concrete next step, rather than leaving staff to return later to act on what they have read or watched. In practice, that means a manager who spots a need in a team can turn it into an assignment immediately through the same system.

LearningPlanet has not provided rollout details beyond saying Maia is available on the platform. The announcement also did not include pricing or packaging information.

Artificial intelligence tools are becoming a bigger feature in human resources and workplace learning software, where suppliers are using them to surface content, answer employee queries, and tailor development prompts. For many vendors, the challenge has been showing that these tools can fit into routine work without adding another destination or process for employees to manage.

LearningPlanet's existing offer centres on short-form video training and accompanying workbooks focused on soft skills. Its content can be used through an organisation's own learning management system or through LearningPlanet's platform.
