Litera partners with Microsoft to enhance legal tech with Copilot

Tue, 4th Jun 2024

Litera has announced its inclusion in a group of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) across various sectors partnering with Microsoft to enhance the influence of Copilot and Microsoft 365. This announcement underscores a collaboration that has spanned over 25 years, aiming to optimise Microsoft Word for legal practitioners. As part of this strengthened partnership, Litera was chosen as one of the few ISVs in the legal technology domain to present their innovations at the Microsoft Build conference, setting the stage for a more agile and intelligent future in the legal sector.

At the Microsoft Build event, Litera distinguished itself as one of the pioneering legal tech vendors to deliver plug-ins to the Microsoft Copilot Plugin Store. They introduced the Litera Search Copilot plugin, a new Copilot extension that enables sophisticated matter and legal precedent searches. This tool leverages both Litera Foundation, the company's core knowledge management platform used by over 50% of top legal firms, and legal content held within firms' Document Management Software (DMS). This technology empowers legal firms to harness their accumulated data - covering clients, matters, lawyers, and third-party profiles - for deeper insights and AI-powered guidance, enhancing their ability to secure new clients and exceed expectations.

Litera's ongoing collaboration with Microsoft has resulted in the seamless integration of their solutions with Copilot within Microsoft 365, ushering in a new era of intelligent and fluid experiences for lawyers. During the conference, three significant capabilities were introduced designed to augment the operations of legal firms and revolutionise the working methodology of legal professionals. These capabilities include drafting and knowledge management tools in Microsoft Office 365 Add-in, a unique set of Copilot plug-ins for a forthcoming element of Litera Foundation scheduled for launch at ILTACON in August 2024, and a legal writing assistant add-in for Litera Drafting and Microsoft Word.

In addition to unveiling the Litera Search Copilot plugin, Litera was also showcased in Microsoft's session on "Unleash AI-powered Extensibilities in Word/Excel/PowerPoint." This session highlighted the Litera Copilot plug-in for Drafting tools, an industry-leading solution that provides dynamic AI-powered search and document retrieval functionalities within any Microsoft Office application. It also included natural language search capabilities against matter and content attributes, allowing existing work and earlier matters to be seamlessly integrated into new documents. These advancements are designed to offer attorneys unparalleled efficiency and intelligent insights, transforming the paradigm of legal work.

Litera's latest innovations in the Microsoft Office 365 Add-ins are crafted to revolutionise the practice of law by significantly enhancing efficiency and intelligence. These tools enable lawyers to draft contracts in minutes rather than hours, manage the entire lifecycle of drafting within Microsoft Office without the need to switch applications, and utilise the power of GenAI to access a firm's collective knowledge instantly for complex questions and market insights. By deepening its alliance with Microsoft, Litera anticipates a future marked by unmatched collaboration and AI-driven transformations, aiming to streamline workflows and foster innovation for a more efficient and intelligent legal experience.

As Litera continues to solidify its standing as a trusted technology partner in the legal industry, its partnership with Microsoft signifies a pivotal moment in legal technology. This collaboration is expected to drive forward a more agile, efficient, and intelligent future for legal professionals, setting a new standard in the industry.
