FYI, this story is more than a year old
Riverbed today announced it will be hosting a live Twitter Q&A session with the creators of TCPDUMP, WinPcap and Wireshark on Wednesday 25 May, New Zealand time.
Steve McCanne, co-creator of TCPDUMP, Loris Degloanni, creator of WinPcap, and Gerald Combs, creator of Wireshark, will share stories of how their technologies were conceived. This event will provide an opportunity for the audience to participate in a Q&A session with the three pioneers in packet capture and analysis.
All three now work at Riverbed.
Twitter users can submit questions by using the hashtag #packetcap.
About the session participants:
- In the late 80s, Steve McCanne created TCPDUMP as a reliable method to capture and efficiently analyse only the necessary network traffic.
- As a student in Italy, Loris Degloanni created WinPcap as an open source Windows capture library based on libpcap.
- Gerald Combs started out with a weekend project to find a more "robust" approach to analyse packet captures and ended up with Wireshark.
