Logitech launches AI-powered, eco-friendly camera

Wed, 26th Jun 2024

Logitech has launched its new AI-powered USB conferencing camera, MeetUp 2, designed to provide a strong impact in meeting rooms while maintaining a minimal environmental footprint.

Targeted at bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and PC-based setups in huddles and small meeting rooms, the MeetUp 2 is an evolution of the original Logitech MeetUp camera. Incorporating advanced AI technology, MeetUp 2 focuses and frames participants automatically to ensure high-quality video and audio during virtual meetings.

Henry Levak, VP of Product at Logitech B2B, highlighted the camera's AI capabilities.

"Logitech MeetUp 2 brings the power of AI with RightSight 2 to create dynamic views that draw remote users into the virtual meeting, and RightSound 2 for advanced voice equalisation and noise suppression," he stated. "On the backend, IT teams can remotely monitor the devices and push out software updates to continuously make MeetUp 2 smarter over time. And not insignificantly, we've built this next-generation conference camera with next-life plastics."

As buyers of IT equipment seek options with lower environmental impact, the MeetUp 2 has been positioned as a more sustainable video conferencing solution.

The camera is developed using Design for Sustainability (DfS) principles, replacing virgin plastic parts with 62% post-consumer recycled plastic. These efforts reduce the camera's carbon footprint and give a second life to plastic waste from consumer electronics.

Logitech's Chief Operating Officer, Prakash Arunkundrum, echoed the company's commitment to environmental sustainability. "We're helping our enterprise customers better manage their carbon footprint," he said. "To encourage other brands to adopt DfS, as a company we openly share our knowledge about how to integrate Next Life recycled plastic into the manufacturing process."

Additionally, MeetUp 2 is packaged in paper sourced from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources, further emphasizing Logitech's sustainable approach.

The camera's AI-driven features, including RightSight 2, aim to create equitable experiences for remote meeting participants by automatically focusing and framing in-room users. RightSight 2's intelligence adjusts to focus on the active speaker, the group, or individual participants. For enhanced audio clarity, the RightSound 2 technology uses AI-based algorithms to balance voices, filter out unwanted noise and reduce room echo.

MeetUp 2 is compatible with popular video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet. It supports features like Zoom Rooms Smart Gallery, which creates individual feeds of in-room participants, and Microsoft's Intelliframe, which automatically places participants in frames for better visibility.

The new MeetUp 2 will expand Logitech's range of conference cameras, catering to spaces from small huddle areas to large conference rooms. It will be available in New Zealand from August 2024 through local resellers.
