FYI, this story is more than a year old

At a Lync launch and training event today at Microsoft’s Auckland office, the company said that mobile apps are in development for release sometime next year.

The company is internally working on an  application for Apple’s iPhone as well as one for its own Windows Phone 7 system.

Applications are also being worked on by third-parties for BlackBerry and Android operating systems.

Microsoft said that it would not be developing a mobile app for Windows 6.5 phones or earlier.

As previously reported, Lync 2010 is a collection of products formerly known as Communications Server, Communications Online and Communicator, as well as Lync Web App and Lync Online. These products include video and audio conferencing, application and desktop sharing, instant messaging and telephony.
