Macrium launches Reflect X, advancing backup technology

Tue, 15th Oct 2024

Macrium has released Reflect X, a backup and disaster recovery solution designed to support Copilot + ARM devices with native bare metal restore and boot menu recovery options.

Reflect X is the latest addition to Macrium's range of software solutions to improve speed and resilience standards. The new version utilises a redesigned compression technique and optimised multithreading processes, effectively doubling the speed of backup and recovery, which is particularly beneficial for businesses seeking to reduce downtime and increase productivity.

A number of Macrium's clients in the OEM, manufacturing, and energy sectors have highlighted downtime resulting from hardware failure as a significant concern. With Reflect X, these businesses can quickly recover from such failures, allowing them to more effectively meet their Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) targets.

Dave Joyce, CEO at Macrium, stated, "We're the first backup and recovery vendor to natively support ARM devices with bare metal recovery and boot menu options, which highlights our innovation muscle; not only this, but we've taken our fast backup and recovery software and made it even faster - twice as fast in fact, which shows how Macrium continues to raise the bar."

Although benchmark test results for Reflect X are based on internal tests, the findings underscore the performance improvements achieved with the new release. However, these results may vary in different real-world storage scenarios.

Reflect X also includes features designed to enhance user autonomy, such as making the backup files open source. This change is intended to ensure customers retain ownership of their data, freeing them from reliance on any single backup provider.

Joyce added, "This liberates customers from a dependence on their existing backup provider and ensures they retain ownership of their data regardless, helping to build transparency and trust with customers. We believe that customers should always own their data and not be tied to any vendor - that's why we boldly made our backup file formats open source. We're the only large-scale vendor that dares to give customers complete control over their backup files because we know they love using our products."

Macrium's focus remains firmly on backup, recovery, and image deployment, ensuring that its products support key components of an organisation's cyber resilience strategy. As enterprises seek the best solutions for cyber security, Macrium's approach is to provide specialised offerings that focus on specific operational needs.

"Reflect X has been designed and developed around the needs of businesses, with an increased focus on metrics that matter most, such as Recovery Time Objective, and Recovery Point Objective. As well as enabling businesses to better protect their data, whilst minimising downtime in increasingly complex IT and OT environments," concluded Joyce.

For customers who have recently purchased Reflect 8, Macrium has instituted a grace period, allowing both new and existing users to transition smoothly to the new Reflect X technology.
