Microsoft NZ fills CTO role

Mon, 15th Mar 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Dr. Mark Rees has been appointed Microsoft New Zealand's National Technology Officer, with a Wellington-based role that begins immediately.

Last December IT Brief reported that Microsoft NZ CTO Brett Roberts would be leaving the company at the end of January, due to a relocation of his role from Auckland to Wellington. Due to family commitments, Roberts was unable to accept the relocated role. Rees Wellington-based NTO role will begin immediately.

"The NTO position plays a key part in building and maintaining Microsoft's relationships with myriad organisations, from education and government to media. I look forward to the challenges of this new role and helping to ensure we meet the needs of these groups," said Rees.

Paul Muckleston, acting Managing Director, Microsoft New Zealand, added, "Mark's background and experience in the technology sector and in dealing with external stakeholders make him an excellent fit for the NTO position. I am confident Mark will provide influence and expertise that will be of benefit to both Microsoft and our business partners.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Rees worked as Lead Architect at Datacom in Wellington, after returning from London and several financial services contracting roles.
