MS releases first Windows Phone 7 update

Tue, 22nd Feb 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

From today Windows Phone 7 users should start receiving a message saying that a software update is available.

This isn’t the update everyone's been crying out for since the phone was released last October though, as Microsoft’s Michael Stroh even admits.

“Now, before you get too excited, let me explain: This isn’t the update you’ve probably been reading about or perhaps waiting for, the one with copy and paste (but that’s coming soon).

“No, this update is a relatively small one.”

With that little bit of deflation in mind, Stroh adds that this very first update for Windows Phone will improve the software update process.

It’s an update that updates the update process.

“So while it might not sound exciting, it’s still important because it’s paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search,” he said, failing to say when any of these goodies may actually be released.

In case you missed the big news recently, Microsoft and Nokia have teamed up to put WP7 software on future Nokia phones in an attempt to catch up to Apple and Android.
