NEC and AWS expand collaboration to strengthen 5G, digital government, and hybrid cloud products
NEC Corporation has expanded its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in global 5G, digital government and hybrid cloud.
In November 2020, NEC and AWS concluded a corporate-level strategic collaboration agreement, and the companies have been developing offerings and strengthening delivery capabilities since then. NEC now plans to expand this collaboration and reinforce its global 5G, digital government, and hybrid cloud efforts.
NEC aims to develop an end-to-end 5G offering and provide it globally by combining its cloud-native open 5G mobile core, OSS/BSS solutions, local 5G use cases, and AWS cloud and edge solutions. NEC will accelerate telecom carriers' network workloads' cloudification and enhance enterprises' digital transformation by deploying 5G-based infrastructure and applications at the network edge.
The company says this combined solution stack will be supported by its system integration services that enable customers to deploy and scale 5G networks, enhance automation and drive improvement in operational economics.
Based on the strategic collaboration that started last year and its achievements for governments to date, NEC has been certified as an AWS Government Competency Partner. NEC says it will further strengthen its relationship with AWS and focus on developing and providing a menu of offerings to accelerate the digital transformation for government activities in Japan.
By collaborating with AWS, NEC aims to develop and provide a menu of offerings to connect on-premises and cloud environments securely, at high speed, with low latency. This, it says, will accelerate digital transformation through modernisation and using the customer's existing IT assets.
To accelerate these initiatives, NEC Group has increased the number of AWS-certified engineers to 2,000, aiming for 3,000, double the number from 2020 when the collaboration began.
"NEC is pleased to announce the expansion of its strategic collaboration with AWS," says NEC Corporation executive VP, Toshifumi Yoshizaki.
"Last year, NEC announced this global collaboration as the first of its kind between AWS and a Japanese company. It's been a great year, with many successes in government, modernisation, and the enhancement of our engineer's skills. NEC is now expanding its collaboration with AWS in global 5G, digital government, and enhanced hybrid cloud offerings.
With strong global support from AWS, he says NEC will help drive digital transformation in the government sector and across industries.
Amazon Web Services, global head of alliances - channels, Doug Yeum, says they are delighted to deepen their relationship with NEC.
"AWS welcomes NEC's commitment and delivery of solutions built on AWS to deliver high-quality solutions that accelerate customers' digital transformations," says Yeum.
"We look forward to NEC's continued expansion of offerings and further expansion of delivery capabilities to optimise these transformations."
