New Gen-i / Revera Takanini data centre on track for October completion
Gen-i and Revera’s new Tier 3 data center, currently under construction in Takanini, is on track for completion in early October 2014.
The $60 million data center is being delivered via a Development Agreement with Retail Holdings, who have engaged Hawkins Construction and AECOM to design and build the facility.
According to Gen-i, the new high resiliency data center will add "considerable momentum" to the long-term growth strategies of both Gen-i and Revera, as the two companies meet increased demand from clients looking to relocate their infrastructure or leverage Revera cloud services.
Lloyd Selby-Brown, Gen-i’s Head of Infrastructure, says the project is now entering its most intensive stage with around 150 workers active on the site fitting out the centre’s electrical and mechanical systems.
“To give some perspective on the scale of the progress, there is currently 1400m2 of anti-static data rack space provided initially, which will grow to 4200m2 overall in three pods at completion,” he says.
“The site will have 4 MW of initial electrical capacity expanding up to 20MW in later phases. Over 960 industrial batteries are used for the initial power arrangement, which will grow to 5760 in the final arrangement.
“This building also includes a first for any New Zealand data center, as it features an innovative Kiwi-designed base isolation bearing system in place to support the main structure, which will maximise its resiliency."
