Nokia chosen by Spark NZ for major 5G network expansion

Nokia has been selected by Spark New Zealand as the majority partner for the expansion of its 4G and 5G infrastructure across key cities in New Zealand. This arrangement will see Nokia providing comprehensive equipment from its 5G AirScale portfolio, including baseband, remote radio heads, and massive MIMO radios, for over 700 sites.

Spark's decision to partner with Nokia is aimed at streamlining network operations and consolidating its Radio Access Network (RAN). The use of Nokia's energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology is expected to deliver increased capacity and connectivity while also reducing complexity and improving cost efficiencies for Spark's customers.

Renee Mateparae, Network and Operations Director for Spark, expressed confidence in the partnership with Nokia. "Nokia has been a trusted partner of ours for many years, and we are excited to work with them on bringing a world-class 5G network to more of Aotearoa, New Zealand. This next phase of our partnership will see us streamlining our 5G deployments to simplify operations and deliver great 5G experiences for our customers every day. Working with Nokia, we aim to deliver next-generation services that will empower the people and businesses creating Aotearoa, New Zealand's tomorrow," she said.
