NZ boost as Gen-i nails down Aussie Telstra deal

Gen-i has today entered into an agreement with Telstra, enabling Telecom’s ICT services division to leverage Telstra’s services in Australia for the benefit of its New Zealand customers.

Last year Gen-i refocused its Australian business to concentrate on supporting business customers, based here or in Australia, with specific trans-Tasman ICT services requirements.

At that time many of the services delivered by Gen-i in Australia were accessed via AAPT, also owned by Gen-i’s parent company Telecom New Zealand.

The recent sale by Telecom of AAPT and changing market dynamics have provided Gen-i with an opportunity to further review the way the company services its customers’ Australian ICT requirements.

The aim of this review was to ensure Gen-i remains agile, competitive and structured to meet the changing needs of New Zealand businesses operating offshore.

Gen-i CEO Tim Miles believes the agreement with Telstra is a positive outcome of this review that will create real value for Gen-i customers.

“Our move to Spark in August reflects our singular focus on enabling New Zealand businesses to succeed in the digital world, both here in New Zealand and wherever else they may operate," he says.

“This new agreement with Telstra will enable us to support our customers’ current and future requirements across the Tasman with the speed, agility and flexibility needed in today’s business environment. ”

Telstra will make offers in respect of certain products and services to approved Gen-i customers in Australia and Gen-i will continue to deliver its products and services to its customers in New Zealand.

In addition, Gen-i says its customers will benefit from ready access to an expanded range of Telstra products and services in Australia.

Gen-i is working closely with Telstra and its customers to transition as many existing services as possible that are currently supplied in Australia to Telstra, where this makes sense both for the customer, Gen-i and Telstra, adds Miles.

Gen-i is also reviewing its Australian operations as part of the Telstra agreement establishment process and anticipates a significantly reduced presence in Australia as a result.

This is line with Gen-i’s renewed focus on supporting the success of New Zealand businesses both here, and wherever they want to operate in today’s globally connected world.
