OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Financial Services, aimed at eligible financial institutions.

The new offering is a tailored version of ChatGPT Work that combines built-in financial datasets with OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model for research, financial modelling, and client documents.

The product was shaped through design partnerships with Morgan Stanley and Evercore, with initial work focused on investment banking and equity research. Those discussions highlighted persistent problems with data access and producing research materials.

Built-in datasets come from providers including Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase. OpenAI said the data is indexed and hosted on its own infrastructure, allowing users to trace figures and claims back to source material through citations linked to tables and passages.

OpenAI is also working on shared sign-in and entitlement integrations with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva, and Moody's. That would allow customers with existing subscriptions to access data they are already entitled to through their ChatGPT login.

The service also includes optimised access to commonly used model context protocol connectors, alongside a broader ecosystem of more than 50 connectors, including Datasite, Box, Preqin, and Intapp.

Banking focus

OpenAI has positioned the service around common corporate finance and research workflows, including value analysis, leveraged buyout modelling, buyer screening, earnings analysis, and pitchbook preparation.

Administrators can publish Excel, Word, and PowerPoint templates through an admin page, allowing teams to generate valuation models, research notes, and presentation materials in firm-approved formats. Firms can also manage access centrally and set controls over data connections and application actions by user role.

According to OpenAI, security and governance features build on those in ChatGPT Enterprise. These include SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, role-based access controls, encryption at rest and in transit, configurable retention settings, exported compliance logs, and the option to create multiple workspaces to enforce information barriers.

OpenAI said it does not use customer business data to train its models by default, a key issue for financial institutions handling confidential client information and material non-public information.

Partner input

Morgan Stanley described the work as part of a broader effort to embed AI tools into research and advisory tasks.

"The promise of frontier research becomes real when it helps our people do the work that matters for our clients. We're working alongside OpenAI to bring that intelligence into how we research companies, develop analysis, and prepare advice. We can test ideas together and help shape how the technology develops. For our firm, that means a product increasingly informed by our people, our methods, and the work that matters to our clients," said Morgan Stanley.

Evercore also said it had worked with OpenAI on the product's development.

"At Evercore, we focus on the questions that matter most to our clients, and we have an opportunity to apply frontier intelligence to help address them. We are working closely with OpenAI to shape how its technology can deepen the insights behind our advice, while building on the judgment and rigorous standards our clients expect from Evercore," said Evercore.

Data providers involved in the service said access to structured and licensed information would be central to its usefulness for finance teams, where analysts often need to verify company data, funding histories, transcripts, and financial statements before drawing conclusions.

"The value of financial research depends on the quality of its inputs, but reliable private market data can be difficult to find and validate from public sources. Now, Crunchbase's structured private company data, covering companies, funding, investors, and acquisitions, and continuously updated and verified, will be at the fingertips of financial teams using ChatGPT. With Crunchbase data, financial teams can move from questions to meaningful insight much faster," said Jager McConnell, Chief Executive Officer, Crunchbase.

Daloopa also framed the agreement as part of a broader shift toward AI-led workflows in the sector.

"We are excited to be selected as one of the native data partners for OpenAI for Financial Services. This continues our strategy of being the data infrastructure for AI and agentic workflows in financial services. Partnering with OpenAI is a tremendous opportunity to expand access to best-in-class fundamental data and put accurate financials directly into the hands of investors where they're already working," said Thomas Li, Chief Executive Officer, Daloopa.

OpenAI said GPT-6 Astra underpins the product's work on information retrieval, financial reasoning, and document creation. In one benchmark cited by the company, the model scored 69.9% on OfficeQA Pro, compared with 60.2% for GPT-5.6 Sol.

OpenAI said the model can work across figures, tables, and notes in financial documents, compare data across reporting periods, and generate charts, spreadsheets, and slide decks based on the analysis. It added that financial institutions and developers can also use its API to build more specialised tools alongside the new service.

"The private markets have always been difficult to see into, and getting a clear picture means piecing together data scattered across the market. PitchBook has spent nearly two decades closing that gap with data and insights that investors can rely on. Partnering with OpenAI is a sign of where this industry is headed: toward answers built on trusted data, not just speed," said Tom Van Buskirk, Executive Vice President of Technology and Engineering, PitchBook.
