Oracle & Google Cloud expand database service offering

Fri, 11th Apr 2025

Oracle and Google Cloud have jointly announced the future availability of Oracle Base Database Service on Oracle Database@Google Cloud, marking a significant development in cloud services collaboration.

As part of this launch, Oracle Base Database Service will bring expanded capabilities. This includes being available in more regions and, for the first time, the option for partners to buy Oracle Database@Google Cloud directly from the Google Cloud Marketplace. This is complemented by a new partner program targeting those participants in both the Google Cloud Partner Advantage program and the Oracle PartnerNetwork.

The partnership also plans to extend access to Oracle Database@Google Cloud in the cities of Melbourne and Sydney within the coming year. Additionally, Oracle Database@Google Cloud now supports Oracle Exadata X11M and Oracle Interconnect for Google Cloud is available for Oracle U.S. Government Cloud customers. This widening scope will include 11 new regions planned for launch over the next 12 months to address the rising customer demand.

In response to the announcement, Jorge Fernandez, Chief Information Officer at Banco Actinver, commented, "Banco Actinver is committed to providing innovative financial solutions to our clients. By combining the security and performance of Oracle Database with Google Cloud's data analytics and AI tools, we're gaining deeper insights into market trends, enhancing our services, and delivering personalised experiences to our customers."

Karan Batta, Senior Vice President at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, remarked, "We continue to expand our partnership with Google Cloud to help meet the growing demand from organisations across the world. The upcoming reseller program for Oracle Database@Google Cloud is not only a first for us, but also for the multicloud market overall. Oracle Base Database Service on Oracle Database@Google Cloud will be another milestone in our partnership. It provides automated database lifecycle management, low-code application development, and independently scalable compute and storage resources with pay-as-you-go pricing."

Referring to the impact on customers, Andi Gutmans, Vice President and General Manager of Databases at Google Cloud, said, "Oracle and Google Cloud's collaboration on Oracle Database@Google Cloud has always placed our joint customers' needs at the forefront. The availability of Oracle Base Database Service will further help customers cost-effectively accelerate their cloud migrations with the technical strengths business-critical workloads require. In addition, offering Oracle Database@Google Cloud through our marketplace reflects our commitment to partners and ensures we continue to provide our customers with the utmost flexibility."

The new partner program, set to roll out within the next year, is designed to allow Google Cloud and Oracle partners to acquire Oracle Database@Google Cloud from the Google Cloud Marketplace via a private offer and resell it to their customers. Partners will also be able to incorporate Oracle Database@Google Cloud into their offerings, with transactions processed through Google Cloud Marketplace limited to credits from Google Cloud.

Many existing clients of Oracle and Google Cloud already buy services via trusted partners. This upcoming reseller program aims to facilitate organisations in discovering and executing valuable emerging use cases through multicloud solutions such as Oracle Database@Google Cloud.

Jack French, Senior Director at Cloud Global Solutions and Architecture, World Wide Technology, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "As a leading technology provider, our clients trust us to bring them the very best solutions. Oracle's innovations with multicloud enable clients to have more flexibility and choice in the cloud. We are excited that Oracle Database@Google Cloud will be available from trusted providers like WWT. This will be an important capability as we help our clients and partners realise their AI-related goals."

Among the new capabilities planned, Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure will support Oracle Exadata X11M. This is expected to deliver performance enhancements across AI, analytics, and online transaction processing (OLTP) compared to previous iterations.

Oracle Interconnect for Google Cloud is now accessible to Oracle U.S. Government customers, facilitating high-bandwidth connectivity between Oracle U.S. Government Cloud East (Ashburn) and Google Cloud for U.S. Government Virginia (Ashburn) regions. This allows government applications in Google Cloud to be integrated with Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service.

The limited preview of Oracle Base Database Service is anticipated to expand options for customers by running Oracle Database Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition 2 on virtual machines with features such as automated lifecycle management, low-code application development, scalable compute and storage, and pay-as-you-go pricing.

New planned regional availability includes Melbourne, Sydney, and Turin within the upcoming year alongside additional regions like Tokyo, Osaka, Mumbai, and others. The plan entails doubling the datacentre capacity in areas like London, Frankfurt, and Ashburn to match customer demand.
