Orion Health has appointed Chris Lucas as Vice President APAC, giving him responsibility for the company's business across Australia, New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Lucas takes up the post after more than 20 years at Orion Health. Most recently, he led the Shared Care Record and Interoperability product suites, including oversight of clinical portals and digital care record technology that clinicians use to combine patient information from different systems.

In his new role, he will oversee the APAC business end to end and bring together the company's Sales, Services and Support functions across the region. Orion Health's customers include Southern Cross Healthcare in New Zealand, eHealth NSW in Australia and FV Hospital in Vietnam.

The appointment moves a long-serving product executive into a regional leadership role at a time when healthcare providers across Asia-Pacific are working to improve access to patient information and connect fragmented systems.

Brad Porter, Chief Executive Officer of Orion Health, said Lucas's product experience would be important for customers using the company's software in clinical settings.

"Chris knows these products inside out, from how they are developed to how they need to perform in clinical settings. This understanding will help us respond to our customers' changing needs," Porter said.

He also highlighted the scale of the opportunity in the region.

"APAC is an important region for Orion Health, with strong foundations and significant opportunities across Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia. Chris is exceptionally well placed to bring our teams together and lead the next stage of growth," Porter said.

Regional remit

Lucas has held senior product leadership roles across some of Orion Health's core clinical systems. He led the development and delivery of its Clinical Portal and Amadeus products, giving him direct experience with the software clinicians use to access patient records and view care histories.

That background is likely to shape his conversations with healthcare organisations considering shared care records, which are designed to give clinicians a unified view of patient information drawn from multiple systems. Orion Health has sought to build its position in this market across Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia.

Lucas said his focus would remain on the practical needs of healthcare users and on bringing teams together across the region.

"I understand the importance of reliable access to patient information and of continuing to improve the technology in response to clinical needs.

"I'm looking forward to bringing that experience into a broader role, working closely with our customers and bringing our Sales, Services and Support teams together to deliver what they need," Lucas said.

Orion Health is a healthcare technology company whose products include digital care records and patient access systems used by health and care organisations. Its APAC footprint spans mature public and private healthcare markets as well as developing hospital and health system projects in South-East Asia.

The choice of an internal executive with technical and clinical software experience suggests the company wants closer alignment between product knowledge and regional customer management. For healthcare buyers, particularly those running large-scale record-sharing programmes, familiarity with the demands of clinical use can be a differentiating factor when suppliers are asked to adapt systems to local workflows and infrastructure.

Lucas's previous role focused on software that helps clinicians build a more complete picture of a patient's health journey from separate data sources. This has become a priority for providers and public health systems trying to move away from siloed records and give frontline staff faster access to consistent information.

His appointment also brings commercial and customer-facing teams under a single regional leader, a structure that can matter in long implementation cycles where procurement, deployment and support often overlap. He will also continue to support key projects across the wider region.
