OutSystems unveils 'Project Neo' for new era of cloud-based app development
Mon, 22nd Nov 2021
FYI, this story is more than a year old

OutSystems's new platform, codenamed Project Neo, is now available in public preview, bringing new levels of application scale and productivity for development teams worldwide.

Project Neo will stand alongside the OutSystems 11 platform to provide visual, model-based development, as well as container-based and Kubernetes-based cloud architecture. The platform is hosted on Amazon Web Services to enable developers to build cloud applications on a global, scalable cloud platform.

According to OutSystems CEO and founder Paulo Rosado, the company aims to break barriers in traditional software development.

With Project Neo, we've architected a platform that allows any development team to build any app at internet scale,” says Rosado.

“Developers should be the artisans of innovation in their organisation, but they are mired in complexity that stifles their ability to innovate and differentiate. Instead of using their talents to fix, change and maintain code and aging systems, you can give them industry-leading tools that unleash their creativity on your business, and achieve massive competitive advantage.

The company says Project Neo can transform internal processes through to mobile apps - and every corner of their organisation.

It enables developers to handle the critical but undifferentiated aspects of development, thus freeing developers to focus on the code that delivers innovation and competitive advantage,

Project Neo also automates DevOps processes, manages an advanced cloud runtime, auto-documents code, resolves code dependencies, performs regression testing, enforces architecture standards, continuously adds new platform features, and keeps the entire system updated by the minute.

The platform enables developers to run elite-performer-level DevOps practices and make critical changes to applications within hours rather than days or weeks, including multiple critical changes each day without increasing technical debt.

Project Neo will be kept fresh and up to date with new cloud technologies without impacting in-production apps. The platform is engineered to ensure all cloud applications are always on and state-of-the-art.

OutSystems states that it can be hard to predict when user communities may grow, but developers can build with confidence that consumer and B2B apps can scale to hundreds of millions of users as organisations and application usage grows, as well as the ability to auto-scale to demand spikes.

Finally, powering the work of both individual developers and large, enterprise software factories: Project Neo will cater for individual developers and large enterprise software development firms by supporting every development organisation, and by enabling hundreds of developers to work simultaneously and continuously update portfolios of applications.

Project Neo is expected to be generally available in 2022.
