OVHcloud's emission targets approved under Paris Agreement

Thu, 21st Nov 2024

OVHcloud has received approval for its greenhouse gas reduction targets, aligning with the Paris Agreement.

OVHcloud, a European cloud service provider, has announced that its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets have been approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global collaborative organisation. This approval encompasses the company's short-term targets for 2030 across scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which are compatible with the provisions of the Paris Agreement aimed at limiting global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Benjamin Revcolevschi, CEO of OVHcloud, commented on this development, stating, "The recognition of our efforts in the field of sustainable development by various agencies, including SBTi, strengthens our commitment and resolution to meet these ambitious objectives and to involve our customers and partners with us in this responsible approach."

OVHcloud has committed to reducing its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 73.4% by the fiscal year 2030. Additionally, the company aims to decrease its scope 3 emissions by 52% in economic intensity within the same timeframe, based on 2022 as the reference year. This places OVHcloud among the few global cloud providers committing to such a comprehensive decarbonisation programme.

The company's initiatives have been recognised by several reputable sustainable development organisations. OVHcloud has been ranked number one among public cloud service providers in France by the consultancy AdVaes under the Baromètre des Prestataires du Numérique Écoresponsables. This ranking underscores the company's efforts in reducing emissions and improving scores in areas like energy, water usage, waste, and recycling.

Further recognition comes from EcoVadis, a globally acknowledged rating organisation, which has rated OVHcloud among the top 29% of responsible companies, allowing it to maintain its bronze medal status while improving its score amidst stricter rating criteria.

Beyond reducing its emissions, OVHcloud extends support to its clients with a comprehensive carbon calculator available for its Bare Metal and Hosted Private Cloud ecosystems. The carbon calculator will be introduced to the Public Cloud and Web Hosting services in the first half of 2025.

Environmental responsibility has been an integral part of OVHcloud's operational ethos since its foundation. The company continues to expand its sustainability efforts, aligning them with its foundational values of reducing its environmental impact and adopting responsible practices.
