Panopto has launched a set of artificial intelligence features for searching, reworking and measuring video-based knowledge, expanding its Knowledge Intelligence product for corporate and education users.

The new features include AI Search, which lets users ask questions in natural language and receive answers drawn from an organisation's video library, with links to the relevant points in source recordings. Panopto has also introduced AI Recast, which converts existing videos into shorter learning modules narrated by avatars.

A second group of additions expands the platform into learning reinforcement, analytics and integration with workplace systems. These include AI Quiz Generation, a data connector for business intelligence tools, a user management API and an integration with Workday Learning.

Panopto is targeting a common problem for large organisations and universities that have amassed years of recorded meetings, lectures, onboarding sessions and training material but struggle to make that content easy to use. The latest releases are intended to turn those archives into searchable answers and repurposed learning material, rather than leave them as static video storage.

At the centre of the first announcement is AI Search, which allows employees and students to ask for information in plain language instead of relying on manual tags or browsing through long recordings.

Each answer points users to the exact moments in videos where the underlying material appears, allowing viewers to check the original context rather than rely on a generated response alone.

AI Recast addresses a different issue: the time and cost of turning long-form recordings into shorter teaching or training assets. Organisations can use the feature to adapt town halls, lectures, executive updates, product launches and onboarding material into focused learning experiences without recreating the content from scratch.

Learning tools

The latest additions also place more emphasis on how users interact with content after finding it. AI Quiz Generation automatically produces knowledge checks from presentations and videos in Panopto's AI Video Studio, giving learning teams and instructors a way to build assessments from existing material.

Quiz text remains editable by the author, allowing organisations to revise wording or tailor material while keeping the initial draft grounded in the source content.

Panopto is also adding Connect Analytics, which tracks how viewers consume content in Panopto Connect. The tool shows engagement trends, where viewers stop watching and which material attracts the most attention.

For learning teams, that data could shape decisions about which formats hold attention and which topics need revision. In higher education, the same information may help lecturers and administrators assess how students use recorded lectures and course resources.

Data links

Another part of the rollout is the Knowledge Insights Data Connector, which sends Panopto data into tools such as Power BI, Tableau and Excel, as well as student success platforms used in higher education. The aim is to connect video and learning engagement data with wider operational measures.

That could allow employers to compare consumption of learning content with metrics tied to employee performance, productivity or compliance. Universities, meanwhile, could combine viewing and engagement patterns with broader indicators of student progress.

Panopto has also introduced a Connect User Management API to handle user provisioning and audience management across employee, partner, customer and student groups. The Workday Learning integration is designed to place Panopto content directly inside an existing learning workflow rather than require users to move between systems.

The announcements reflect growing interest across business software and education technology in using artificial intelligence to make archived media more accessible and measurable. As organisations accumulate large stores of recorded material, suppliers are increasingly trying to present video not simply as content to host, but as a source of operational knowledge.

The new tools build on a platform used by more than 2,000 organisations worldwide, including universities and large companies. Panopto has spent nearly two decades in video capture and management, with its newer product direction focused on extracting practical value from that material through search, reuse and analysis.

Stephen Laster, Chief Executive Officer of Panopto, linked the releases to changes in how people consume learning and information at work and in education.

"For nearly two decades, we have partnered with leading educational institutions and forward-thinking corporations to make visual knowledge and learning more accessible, engaging, and impactful," said Stephen Laster, Chief Executive Officer of Panopto.

"That heritage continues to shape everything we build. Knowledge Intelligence extends the principles we have championed to meet today's visual learning challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing formal and informal learning environment. Our North Star continues to shine on helping people gain new capabilities through visual learning."

In a separate comment on the latest additions, he pointed to the need for both verification and measurement in learning systems.

"Helping people find trusted sources of information so that they can efficiently move forward is one part of knowledge intelligence," Laster said.

"In both formal and informal learning, people need reinforcement and practice. Educators and sponsors need to understand how knowledge is being used and connect learning to measurable outcomes. I am excited by these advancements based on the invaluable feedback from our customer councils."
