Percona launches fixed-scope packages for open databases

Tue, 13th Jan 2026

Percona has launched Percona Packages, a set of fixed-scope consulting and support services aimed at database and IT teams working with open source systems.

The company said the new suite includes three initial offerings: Quickstart, Performance Optimization, and AI Readiness. Percona positioned the services as structured engagements with a defined scope for common database work in large organisations.

Percona sells open source database software, support, and services. It works with several database technologies, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Valkey.

Percona linked the launch to a shortage of specialist skills in data engineering and data management. It cited research that points to gaps in architecture and data handling skills at many organisations. The company also pointed to forecasts about the economic cost of IT skills shortages tied to data management, cloud, and AI.

"Percona has always been about empowering organizations with expert database services, and with Percona Packages, we're returning to those roots," said Peter Farkas, CEO, Percona.

Percona described the services as covering both preparation for peak usage and work on ongoing performance. It also included a package aimed at organisations preparing PostgreSQL systems for AI-related workloads.

Three offerings

Quickstart centres on preparing database environments for periods of heavy demand. Percona said major digital events can strain database systems, even when teams have designed them carefully. The company said the package includes proactive optimisation and a health check. It also includes three months of 24/7 expert support.

Performance Optimization focuses on identifying and fixing issues that slow down database systems. Percona highlighted slow queries and configuration issues as examples of bottlenecks. It said the work includes hands-on tuning and best-practice guidance.

AI Readiness targets PostgreSQL environments. Percona said some organisations find that existing databases do not meet requirements for vector search or real-time inference workloads. The company said the package covers optimisation work for extensions such as pgvector. It also includes analysis of performance metrics and before-and-after benchmarks.

Database focus

Percona said the three packages are available immediately. It said customers can tailor the packages to the open source database technologies that Percona supports, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Valkey. Percona said AI Readiness is designed specifically for PostgreSQL.

The announcement also sets out a broader positioning around cross-database support. Percona framed the packages as part of its approach to covering multiple open source databases in a single services portfolio.

"Our goal is to be a one-stop shop for open source database technology, providing support across MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Valkey/Redis, and beyond. These packages tackle the most urgent database challenges while delivering fast, measurable results, so our customers can focus on innovation, not infrastructure headaches," said Farkas.

The services add to a market where database operations and reliability work increasingly intersects with organisational AI plans. Companies rolling out AI projects often need to revisit data infrastructure choices and operational practices. Some teams also assess whether their transactional systems can handle new query patterns, including vector-based searches.

Percona said the packages aim at enterprise IT and DBA teams. The company presented them as a way to address urgent issues in a defined engagement structure, rather than open-ended consulting.

Percona said the suite starts with Quickstart, Performance Optimization, and AI Readiness, and it positioned them as a response to demand for predictable services around database readiness and performance work.
