Percona spins out OpenEverest, launches Solanica arm

Tue, 13th Jan 2026

Percona has spun out Percona Everest as an independent open-source project called OpenEverest and said it will set up a wholly owned subsidiary, Solanica, to develop the software and grow its community.

The company described OpenEverest as an open source platform for automated database provisioning and management. Percona said the change marks a shift from a Percona-led product into a project with open governance and participation from outside the company.

Project Structure

Percona said OpenEverest will operate with a "multi-vendor community" model. The company said it expects participation from individuals, partners and organisations beyond Percona.

The group said it intends OpenEverest's roadmap to reflect community requirements. It also said the project's governance model will not centre on the commercial priorities of a single vendor.

Percona said it will remain an active contributor after the transition. It also said it will continue to offer support, consulting and services for organisations that use OpenEverest.

Percona also announced the creation of Solanica, which it described as a wholly owned subsidiary. Percona said Solanica will focus on developing OpenEverest and on community development.

Percona positioned the move as part of a broader open source strategy. The company framed the project as a foundation for collaboration across the data management ecosystem.

"OpenEverest represents the next stage in the evolution of the project," said Blair Rampling, Vice President of Product Management at Percona. "By establishing it as an independent open source project, we are creating the conditions for broader collaboration, faster innovation, and long-term sustainability, while maintaining continuity and enterprise-grade support for users."

Product Focus

Percona said OpenEverest is designed as an extensible platform. It said developers can add support for additional databases over time.

The company also pointed to integrations that go beyond databases. Percona said the architecture is intended to support a wider range of data infrastructure and operational use cases.

Percona described a longer-term goal for OpenEverest. It said the project aims to provide a common, open foundation for managing and operating modern data platforms.

The announcement places the project within a broader set of cloud-native tools that target operational management, rather than application development. Percona positioned OpenEverest as software that sits between infrastructure operations and database administration in organisations that run modern deployments across cloud and on-premise environments.

Cloud-Native Links

Percona said OpenEverest is positioned to work more closely with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation and the wider cloud-native ecosystem. The company linked that ambition to open governance, ecosystem growth and long-term project stability.

Percona did not provide details on any formal CNCF process steps. It also did not outline a timeline for closer engagement with CNCF bodies or projects.

The reference signals an intent to align with established cloud-native governance patterns. Many open-source infrastructure projects use CNCF frameworks as a route to broaden contributor bases and formalise neutral governance, although Percona has not set out specific commitments in that area.

User Continuity

Percona said existing users of Percona Everest will see no change in Percona's approach to reliability, security and support. The company said users will continue to receive continuity through Percona as the project transitions.

Percona also said users will benefit from a more open ecosystem and a growing pool of contributors. The company did not specify how it will manage compatibility between previous Percona Everest deployments and the new OpenEverest project as governance and maintainership broaden.

The establishment of Solanica adds another layer to Percona's approach. Percona said the subsidiary will focus on the software and its community, while Percona continues to provide commercial services around the project.

Percona said it expects a broader group of contributors and maintainers to participate across the industry as OpenEverest develops under its independent structure.
