Prime Video introduces add-on subscriptions in New Zealand

Thu, 14th Nov 2024

Prime Video has launched add-on subscriptions and the Prime Video Store in New Zealand, granting subscribers access to an expanded selection of content.

Subscribers now have the option to personalise their entertainment by subscribing to 14 streaming services such as Hayu, Lionsgate+, MGM+, and beIN SPORTS, all integrated within the Prime Video app under a single account and password.

This integration allows users to manage multiple streaming services without switching between different platforms.

The Prime Video Store has also become accessible to customers wishing to rent or purchase films, offering a wide range of new releases, blockbuster movies, and classic titles. Importantly, this service can be accessed without a Prime Video subscription, permitting anyone to create an account on primevideo.com or through the Prime Video app.

"As a first stop entertainment destination, customers can already find many of their favourite movies, series and live sports under one roof, be it entertainment produced by Amazon MGM Studios, licensed movies and series from partner studios, and live sports," said Daniel Slepak, Head of Marketplace Prime Video Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

"We are thrilled to be able to now expand our premium entertainment offering with the addition of add-on subscriptions, and thousands of movies to rent or buy - so customers can personalise their viewing experience all directly on Prime Video."

These add-on subscriptions aim to enhance the Prime Video membership, allowing users to add streaming services directly within the app for a monthly fee. Subscriptions can be easily cancelled, providing flexibility to subscribers who wish to adjust their entertainment preferences.

The service offers numerous benefits, including access to thousands of new titles, live events, and on-demand content. It also features same-day access to the latest episodes of popular TV shows. Subscribers will benefit from a streamlined experience with one login account, consolidated billing, and an organised watchlist all within the same app.

In addition to subscription services, the Prime Video Store presents an opportunity for New Zealand customers to rent or buy new movies without the necessity of a Prime Video subscription. The store's offerings include titles from major studios such as Warner Bros, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures Entertainment and highlight popular films like "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," "Deadpool & Wolverine," and "Joker: Folie à Deux."

Prime Video's add-on subscriptions and Store are accessible through the existing Prime Video app, which is compatible with a variety of devices, including smart TVs and mobile devices running on iOS and Android, as well as Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.

Subscribers can start with a seven-day free trial for Prime Video and all new add-on subscriptions, providing a risk-free opportunity to explore the expanded offerings. Additional subscriptions are expected to be introduced in the coming months, further broadening the available content.

Among the initial subscriptions being offered is MGM+ at NZD $5.99 per month, which provides access to MGM's extensive library, including titles like "Fargo" and "The Terminator." Other featured services include Hayu, known for its reality TV coverage, and Crunchyroll, a leading service for anime enthusiasts.

The Lionsgate+ service is available at NZD $3.99 per month, bringing popular series such as "The Power Universe" and access to movies including "Twilight" and "La La Land." Additionally, beIN SPORTS caters to international football fans, offering coverage of leagues such as La Liga and Serie A.

Lionsgate+, Crunchyroll, DocPlay, Love Nature, and iWonder are among the services offered, each providing unique content targeted at different interests, from nature documentaries to anime. With such a variety, Prime Video aims to cater to diverse tastes, expanding its role as a comprehensive entertainment hub in New Zealand.
