Progress partners with Veeam for cyber defence solution

Tue, 14th May 2024

Progress, an infrastructure software provider, has announced a strategic partnership with Veeam Software, a global player in Data Protection and Ransomware Recovery, to create an enterprise-ready cyber defence solution designed to bolster the security of business-critical data.

This collaboration fuses Progress Flowmon's advanced network detection and response (NDR) capabilities with the Veeam Data Platform, delivering a solution to safeguard crucial customer data amid a rapidly escalating global cyber threat landscape.

Cybersecurity attacks are occurring with increasing frequency and severity, often leaving organisations decimated and costing millions in ransom payoffs, lost productivity, reputational damage, and reduced customer confidence. The 2024 Veeam Data Protection Trends Report reveals that 76% of organisations have suffered at least one cyber attack in the past 12 months, with 26% of those enduring a minimum of four attacks.

To combat the growing threat and reduce the time required to detect and respond to these issues, it is essential to deploy a solution that intelligently aggregates multiple network inputs and automates remediation.

At the heart of the partnership is Progress Flowmon Anomaly Detection System (ADS) 's intelligent NDR capabilities, fused with the security features of the Veeam Data Platform. Flowmon ADS provides network-layer visibility of potential attacks, enabling customers to leverage early detection and warnings to trigger the Incident API in Veeam Backup & Replication. Flowmon ADS’s inclusion in the Veeam Ready Security program ensures its official verification.

Sundar Subramanian, EVP and GM of Infrastructure Management at Progress, stated, "Veeam's world-class capabilities and market reach make them a highly strategic partner for us. We share the desire to provide customers with in-depth cyber protection, and the combination of our respective threat detection and data protection technologies provide a powerful offering."

John Yang, Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan, Progress, added, "With the increase in cybersecurity incidents in the region, organisations need to be more vigilant. Through this partnership with Veeam, we can provide them with enhanced cyber resilience by mitigating attacks and helping protect data assets."

Flowmon ADS employs an intelligent detection engine that applies automated behaviour analysis algorithms to detect anomalies hidden within network traffic. It quickly reveals malicious behaviours, attacks against mission-critical applications, data breaches, and other indicators of compromise. In addition, the new Flowmon ADS 12.2 utilises AI to offer a comprehensive view of detected security events, assisting cybersecurity professionals in identifying and prioritising key events and proactive responses.

Andreas Neufert, Vice President of Product Management, Alliances at Veeam, emphasised the significance of this collaboration: "This integration brings automated cyber protection capabilities to our shared customers, enabling them to respond instantly to cyber threats."

Flowmon ADS was recognised with the gold award in the Network Detection and Response category of the 2023 Globee Cybersecurity Awards and named a Technology Leader by Quadrant Knowledge Solutions in their 2023 SPARK Matrix: Network Detection and Response report.
