Qumulo launches cloud native service on AWS, cuts costs by 80%

Fri, 13th Sep 2024

Qumulo has announced the general availability of its Cloud Native Qumulo (CNQ) on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This new offering is designed to manage unstructured data with a focus on performance, scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency. The service is now available on AWS and aims to meet the 'rigorous' demands of high-performance workloads with a cloud-native approach, the company states.

The CNQ platform is tailored for various industries including healthcare and life sciences, media and entertainment, higher education, financial services, and the energy sector. It also supports advanced industrial environments and Industry 2.0 use cases, making it applicable to manufacturing and technology organisations. For customers in regulated industries or those supporting federal entities, CNQ can be deployed in AWS GovCloud, providing a secure and compliant option that meets stringent government and regulatory requirements.

“For the first time, customers can use CNQ on AWS to elastically burst performance or capacity at will, customising the storage instance to meet dynamic workload demands,” said Kiran Bhageshpur, Chief Technology Officer at Qumulo. “CNQ can be deployed within minutes and updated within seconds, enabling customers to run enterprise file workloads within their Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), with optional use of S3 intelligent tiering to reduce infrastructure costs further.”

The platform aims to disrupt the economics of cloud data management, offering pricing that is up to 80% less than legacy file offerings. By leveraging AWS S3 for long-term data persistence, CNQ significantly reduces costs without compromising performance. Its intelligent cache management system accelerates data access between object storage and compute, ensuring efficient data service from NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express). This approach eliminates the latency commonly associated with file transfers from S3 to temporary caches, thereby unlocking a wide range of file workloads previously confined to on-premises data centres due to performance or cost concerns.

Key features of Cloud Native Qumulo (CNQ) on AWS include:

  • Simplicity: CNQ can be deployed in minutes using a range of EC2 instance types, allowing for quick adaptation to changing needs.
  • Elasticity: Seamlessly expand and contract performance and capacity within minutes to match dynamic workload requirements without disruption.
  • Scalability: Scale data footprints to exabyte levels, accommodating the increasing data demands of modern enterprises.
  • Durability: Benefit from the 99.999999999% durability of AWS S3, ensuring data protection and availability at all times.
  • Economics: Pay only for what is used, with the option of S3 intelligent tiering to further optimise costs.

The launch of Cloud Native Qumulo on AWS marks a significant milestone for the company in cloud data management, providing organisations with flexibility, performance, and cost efficiency in managing their data. This new offering is intended to help enterprises fully leverage the benefits of the cloud while maintaining the economic advantages traditionally associated with on-premises environments, Qumulo states.
