FYI, this story is more than a year old

After launching it's Australia data center two months ago, Rackspace is making a double recruitment to help run the new facility.

The IT hosting and cloud computing company has confirmed the appointment of a Data Center Manager and a Network Security Engineer, following the data center launch in Sydney in August.

The new multi-million dollar investment, located at Erskine Park in Western Sydney, will support the company’s ongoing growth in Australia.

Appointed to manage the site is Peter MacGee, who will be the company's new Australia Data Center manager.

Brining over 15 years experience from the Australian telecommunications and IT service provider industry, MacGree has worked directly with data centers for over a decade.

"This isn't just significant infrastructure locally, it's an important part of the company's global strategy and I’m very excited to be an active part of it," MacGee says.

Also joining the Australian Rackspace team is Chad McCathie as Network Security Engineer, who first joined Rackspace’s UK team in 2006 before taking up roles in Australia.

The company's ANZ manager Mark Randall believes hiring the right person to run the newly launched data center was a vital local decision.

"The launch of our data center was a huge success, with customers, partners and industry tremendously excited about the news," he says.

"Hiring the right person to run it was a vital local decision.

"MacGee’s customer service focus in previous roles made him perfect for one of our most important positions in Australia.

"We're a very hands-on company, with 85 per cent of Rackers in customer facing roles.

"Delivering fanatical support alongside our leading technology is what makes Rackspace stand out from the crowd, and Peter MacGee fits that description like a glove."
