RUCKUS is embracing the Wi-Fi 7 revolution - you should too
Mon, 12th Feb 2024

RUCKUS Networks has announced its support for the upcoming Wi-Fi 7 technology, indicating a significant upgrade in network performance capabilities. The new IEEE 802.11be standard, Wi-Fi 7, is set to enhance wireless networking in various sectors such as enterprise, healthcare, education, and public venues by offering improved efficiency, security, and responsiveness.

Wi-Fi 7 is characterized by its high speeds, low latency, and increased capacity, aimed at improving user experiences. It is designed to facilitate advanced connected devices and applications, including 8K video streaming, extended reality (XR) video conferencing, and large-scale social gaming. RUCKUS highlights, "Wi-Fi 7 is your key to unlock a more efficient, secure and responsive network," underscoring the potential improvements the standard brings to wireless networking.

RUCKUS plans to adapt its product line to the requirements of Wi-Fi 7 by implementing a three-radio architecture. This adjustment will allow the simultaneous use of 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, essential for Wi-Fi 7, aiming to increase throughput, decrease latency, and enhance connection reliability. The company aims to be at the forefront of adopting Wi-Fi 7, with the introduction of compatible enterprise-class devices scheduled for 2024.

The introduction of Wi-Fi 7 is expected to offer various benefits over Wi-Fi 6, including increased throughput, thanks to wider channels and added 6 GHz capacity. RUCKUS states that Wi-Fi 7 could achieve peak rates exceeding 40 Gbps, significantly higher than those of Wi-Fi 6. Another key feature of Wi-Fi 7 is multi-link operation (MLO), which allows for the use of multiple bands to connect access points and user devices simultaneously, aiming to enhance throughput and connection stability.

Preamble puncturing, another feature of Wi-Fi 7, enables an access point to use parts of a channel even if other parts are occupied, supporting 320 MHz channels—twice the width available in Wi-Fi 6—without performance being affected by interference. Additionally, Wi-Fi 7 plans to support time-sensitive networking (TSN) to ensure consistent latency levels, essential for applications such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

The RUCKUS R770 Wi-Fi 7 Access Point represents the company's commitment to integrating Wi-Fi 7's capabilities. Utilizing RUCKUS AI and BeamFlex technology, the R770 aims to provide optimal performance in challenging environments, highlighting the potential of Wi-Fi 7 to enhance wireless networking.

As RUCKUS prepares for the Wi-Fi 7 transition, its efforts reflect the evolving landscape of wireless connectivity. Wi-Fi 7 promises to bring notable improvements in network performance, reliability, and user experience, marking a step forward in the evolution of wireless networking standards.
