Samsung on RIM: We're not interested
Thu, 19th Jan 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

A rumour that Samsung is considering purchasing BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has been quashed by the Korean company, in a definitive statement to Reuters.

Samsung spokesman James Chung says, "We haven’t considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM).”

The rumour was originally posted on tech blog the Boy Genius Report, which posited that RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger would be ‘a smart way for Samsung to differentiate itself inside the Android ecosystem’.

Chung says the company has not even been approached by RIM, in contrast to the blog’s claim that RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie was ‘going hard after Samsung’, but a deal hadn’t been struck because he was asking for too much money.
