Seagate unveils budget-friendly archive tier for Lyve Cloud

Today

Seagate has announced the addition of a new infrequent access tier to its Lyve Cloud Object Storage service, aimed at providing enterprises with a cost-efficient solution for storing rarely accessed data without retrieval fees.

The newly introduced archive tiering service allows businesses to optimise their IT budgets by transferring less frequently used data to lower-cost storage tiers. This enables users to access their data without incurring additional retrieval fees.

"Nearly 65% of our customers are actively seeking an archive tier that is economical and provides both flexibility and customer choice to their S3 offering," said Melyssa Banda, Senior Vice President of Edge Storage and Services at Seagate. "Now our Cloud Object Storage users can easily scale storage resources to accommodate their growing and evolving data requirements."

In addition to cost efficiency, the new service maintains the performance standards of Seagate's standard Lyve Cloud Object Storage tier. It offers high durability, high throughput, and low latency, ensuring a similar performance and service level agreement as the existing standard tier.

The security and compliance features of the new tier remain consistent with the standard offering, incorporating encryption, immutability, SOC 2, ISO27001, and HIPAA compliance to safeguard enterprise data.

Data archive and lifecycle management has become a significant focus for enterprises, with 61% prioritising it in their data strategies. The infrequent access tier, offered as a dedicated tenant, assists enterprises in managing, archiving, and deleting data in line with their data lifecycle requirements.

Industries such as healthcare, finance, and media and entertainment stand to benefit from the cost-efficient storage for infrequently accessed data. Various data types suited to this tier include active archives, content repositories, compliance and regulatory data, log and event data, as well as digitised tape repositories, where long-term storage is required though access may not be frequent.

The Seagate Lyve infrequent access tier is available via subscription, priced at USD $3.75 per terabyte per month, offering a predictable billing model for businesses needing lower-cost storage solutions for infrequently accessed data.

Seagate Technology specialises in mass-capacity data storage. The company creates technology so users can confidently store data and unlock its value. Founded over 45 years ago, Seagate has shipped more than four billion terabytes of data capacity and offers a full portfolio of storage devices, systems, and services from edge to cloud.
