Sentinel Global has launched Sentinel Labs, extending its research service to external institutional investors.

The San Francisco venture capital firm had previously made Sentinel Labs available only to institutional partners. It is now offering the platform to asset managers, sovereign wealth funds and investment teams.

Sentinel Labs is designed to produce real-time research for investors assessing how technology disruption, macroeconomic shifts and artificial intelligence adoption affect their portfolios. The service is aimed at large institutions seeking analysis that connects changes in technology, policy and capital flows to current asset decisions.

The launch widens access to an internal research operation built for Sentinel Global's own investment work. The firm described the platform as part of its AI-based approach to venture capital and said it had tested the system on live portfolio questions before offering it more broadly.

Two parts

Sentinel Labs has two linked elements. One is a research function that produces tailored analysis for investment managers on the market effects of technological change. The other is Sago, a proprietary artificial intelligence engine that processes data, organises memos and identifies signals for the research team.

Reports can cover topics such as stablecoin adoption in traditional banking and the portfolio effects of geopolitical shocks, including those stemming from conflict in the Middle East. The service is intended to fit into existing institutional workflows without complex implementation.

The move reflects a broader push by investment firms to use artificial intelligence tools in research and decision-making, particularly as institutional investors seek faster analysis of sectors undergoing rapid technological change. Legacy research systems, often built around slower production cycles and standardised products, have come under pressure as investors demand more tailored information.

Internal origins

Sentinel Global said it developed the platform in-house after concluding that older research methods were inadequate for a market increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence. The firm rebuilt its intelligence operation around proprietary AI systems and paired that infrastructure with experienced investors making live decisions.

This internal origin is central to how Sentinel Global is positioning the service. Rather than presenting Sentinel Labs as a standalone software tool, it describes it as an intelligence product that emerged from portfolio management needs and was refined in live market conditions.

Jeremy Kranz outlined the rationale for the launch in comments the firm released. "We built Sentinel Labs because we wanted real-time intelligence for the toughest investment questions," said Jeremy Kranz, Founder and Managing Director of Sentinel Global.

"Institutions are now asking for access because there is an urgent market need for answers to complex technology challenges," he added.

Sentinel Global focuses on multi-stage investments in enterprise technology companies and says its strategy centres on identifying long-term technology shifts. Its decision to make Sentinel Labs available beyond its existing partner base suggests it sees commercial demand among limited partners and other institutional investors for research products shaped by artificial intelligence and designed for investment use rather than general information gathering.

The launch also places Sentinel Global among a growing group of private market firms building adjacent services around their investment operations. In this case, it is offering a research product that stems from the same analytical processes used in its own venture portfolio work.

For institutional investors, the appeal is likely to depend on whether such products can provide timely, specific analysis without requiring internal teams to adopt new systems or workflows. Sentinel Global said Sentinel Labs was built to deliver fast research in an accessible format without a complicated setup process.

The reports now offered to institutions are the product of Sentinel Global's own investment work and have been stress-tested against actual market conditions, according to the firm.
