Snapper hits 100,000 milestone
Thu, 11th Feb 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The contactless ticketing and payments system company announced that it has issued its 100,000th smartcard device in New Zealand.

The company achieved the milestone after its initial launch in Wellington in July 2008.

Snapper CEO Miki Szikszai said, “I’m thrilled that Snapper has hit the ton in such a short timeframe. This really proves that Snapper has been adopted by the masses in the Wellington market.”

He added: “In some overseas markets it has taken twice as long to achieve similar market adoption rates, so our confidence is high as we progress with making Snapper available right throughout New Zealand.”

The company has experimented with new services, including a trial with East by West ferries in Wellington, prototype self-service kiosks, and the ability for customers to pay with Snapper for purchases, including those at restaurants, cafes and cinemas in Wellington.

Szikzai said the developments have been received positively and that the company has more plans and offerings in the works for 2010, including a move to increase Snapper use in the student market.

“We have a lot more planned for 2010, making Snapper even easier and more convenient – I’m excited to see how our customers will respond to these products and services and how quickly we will get to 200,000,” he said.

Snapper also recently announced on its blog that in order to get ready for the Rugby World Cup the company has been working in the Auckland market in order to make its service widely available in the region by mid-2010.
