Snapper moves into Auckland market
Wed, 2nd Dec 2009
FYI, this story is more than a year old

New Zealand’s leading contactless ticketing and payment system, Snapper, is set to be widely available in Auckland in 2010, with an eye on the Rugby World Cup.From mid-2010 some Auckland buses will progressively begin accepting Snapper cards, and the technology can readily be extended to other public transport modes before the Rugby World Cup.The company believes this move will allow more than half of all Auckland commuters to be able to pay for their journey by using a Snapper card. The company intends to extend this coverage further, and believes it is possible to have integrated ticketing on 90% of Auckland’s public transport in time for the Rugby World Cup. Snapper’s Auckland development is an extension of a successful Wellington and Hutt Valley-based system. Miki Szikszai, CEO of Snapper believes the company has localised the smartcard solution for the New Zealand market.“We've brought together the best technology in the world and New Zealand's electronic payments and public transport systems,” he says. “Aucklanders are overdue the benefits of Snapper, something that Wellingtonians have been enjoying for over a year.”
