Spammers bank on Wave invites
Tue, 3rd Nov 2009
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Due to the surging popularity of Google Wave, spammers have started passing off malware as Wave invites.

Scammers have started posting on forums across the web inviting people to download an automatic Wave ‘invite generator’, named googlewaveinvitegenerator.exe, which is actually the Backdoor.Tidserv malware.

The offer urges users to download by saying the application is limited to 200 people and that users can even sell the invites.

Spammers have also been using Twitter accounts to push the malware.

Google has an official website for users to request Wave invites.
