Splunk expands observability with new AppDynamics features

Today

Splunk has announced an expansion of its observability portfolio, incorporating Splunk AppDynamics to enhance visibility and provide richer business insights for organisations.

Splunk aims to address the challenges faced by IT operations and engineering teams, such as scattered visibility across technology stacks and a lack of insights into performance issues impacting business operations. The expanded solution offers smarter insights, improved automation for guided troubleshooting, and deeper visibility into Kubernetes environments for a more comprehensive user experience.

Patrick Lin, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Observability at Splunk, commented on the need for improved business and user context in today's hybrid environments. "To help overcome scattered visibility and blind spots of today's hybrid and modern environments, injecting the right business and user context is key," Lin said. "Splunk excels at this – our observability portfolio, supercharged by AppDynamics, provides customers essential business context to see how a problem originated and what, or who, is being impacted. We also provide a breadth of coverage so customers can standardise their observability practice on one solution."

The incorporation of Cisco AppDynamics into the Splunk Observability portfolio, now known as Splunk AppDynamics, provides unified visibility across three-tier and microservices environments. This integration offers improvements such as Single Sign-On (SSO) and Deep Linking between Splunk Cloud and Splunk AppDynamics, an enhanced user interface, and Log Observer Connect for bridging gaps between dashboards and relevant logs.

Additional innovations aimed at reducing troubleshooting efforts include AI enhancements to the Splunk Observability Cloud and new capabilities for Kubernetes proactive troubleshooting. The latest updates to the Tag Spotlight feature provide an intuitive understanding of recurring problems to facilitate faster incident resolution.

Stephen Elliot, Group Vice President & Analyst at IDC, shared his perspective on the update: "Cisco and Splunk have rationalised the observability portfolio. Customers can strengthen their digital resilience with a unified experience that gives them visibility and business insights across any environment."

Ed Hubbard, Director of Site Reliability and Monitoring at Travelport, highlighted the importance of quick incident response for global companies, stating: "As a global company, it's essential to act and respond to incidents quicker and reduce the occurrence of downtime. Through observability, we can do this by achieving richer visibility into our network, infrastructure, and critical applications at every touchpoint."

All the described innovations within Splunk's observability offerings are now generally available, offering organisations tools to improve their digital resilience and operational efficiency.
