There's been remote cameras around for a few years, only now are their capabilities meeting expectations and the SpotCam is easy to setup, simple to use, and can provide you with valuable information to keep an eye on your house, or evidence in the event of a burglary.

With an accompanying smartphone app (though not Windows), you can remotely monitor and see events through the Cloud portal that it broadcasts to. There is no worries with security, as your account and camera are secure through your own account, although if you are that way minded, you can make it public for anyone to watch through the www.myspotcam.com site.

The SpotCam has both day and night capabilities, and having tested it at 2am during a recent storm, I could easily see everything in the room, so a large space is easily viewable. SpotCam also include a recording capability, with movement and audio events being recorded. You get a day's recording for free, and if you want longer, you can  move up to 30 days recording.

This gets away from having a DVR in your house. Often if people are going to break in and spot a camera, they would likely look and remove a DVR, don't forget they keep up to date with technology just as you do. Making the SpotCam visible is its bright blue LED, although this can be turned off for more discreet monitoring.

Its simplicity is its power, with setup taking only a few minutes, and not costing you anything, this is a real fit and forget device, perfect for monitoring, and with the ability to have alerts sent to you, extremely powerful.

There's a multitude of use cases for this device, from holiday home monitoring, babysitting your pet (did I mention you can talk through it, ideal for confusing the dog!), keeping an eye on the yard, or visitors. Being an outdoor capable camera, you can be sure it'll be ok in any weather, with sealed connectors and covered connectors and the ability to secure it vertically to a wall or upside down.
