Study: Asia-Pacific WAN to grow 10%
According to a study the Asia-Pacific WAN services market will hit nearly US$13.3 billion in revenue by the end of the year.
A Frost & Sullivan study has reported that the market grew 6.2% last year “in spite of one of the worst recessions”. Research Manager, Arun Chandrasekaran, said that the growth was stoked by cross-regional branch expansions and data center consolidation.
Australian WAN services revenue in 2009 totalled US$1.34 billion which represents 11.2% of the Asia Pacific total revenue. Australia is the third largest WAN services market in the Asia Pacific after China and South Korea.
New Zealand revenue in 2009 totalled US$403 million (3.3% of Asia Pacific total revenue).
“The convergence of voice, video and data is prompting rising demand for MPLS IP VPN (Multi-protocol Label Switching IP VPN) services given its scalability, low TCO (total cost of ownership) and ease in multiple site connectivity,” said Chandrasekaran. “While Ethernet is proving to be the preferred technology for high-speeds and connectivity between limited sites such as data center-to-data center.”
