Survey reveals AI-led security critical for business growth

A recent survey conducted by OpenText Cybersecurity, a global technology provider, has unveiled significant findings regarding the growing importance of AI-led security services. The survey, which garnered responses from over 1,500 Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs), revealed that a substantial 92.5% of businesses view the integration of AI-driven security and threat intelligence services as critical drivers of business growth over the next year.

The survey respondents predominantly comprise companies listed in the FTSE100 and Fortune 500 indices. These organisations highlighted the incorporation of AI into security as the primary challenge, as well as the foremost opportunity for MSPs and MSSPs. The move towards AI-enhanced security is seen as vital in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of security teams and tools.

Over three-quarters (83%) of MSPs and MSSPs reported a surge in business activity driven by a heightened interest in AI-based security tools and expertise. In particular, 34% of the respondents stated that aiding customers in incorporating AI into their security frameworks is now the most significant challenge they are addressing. Rather than replacing human involvement, AI technologies are being employed to augment the capabilities of existing security talent and platforms.

He remarked, "Amid the growing excitement and interest in AI technologies, it's crucial not to overlook the foundational need for composable security which provides the ability to adapt to changing security needs. MSPs and MSSPs play a critical role in safeguarding their customers' sensitive data. As cyber threats escalate, our partners are prioritising security and integrating AI-powered threat intelligence services into their offerings. This ensures our end customers can reap the benefits of AI technology without compromising security."

Key findings from the survey include a notable shift in priorities towards embedded AI and comprehensive security solutions under single vendors. In 2024, a vast majority (92.5%) reported that AI investments and the provision of AI security services to track threats and vulnerabilities would be major catalysts for business expansion. Moreover, more than 80% of the respondents currently offer AI-related security services, with an additional 62% of those not yet offering such services planning to do so in the next twelve months.

The survey also highlighted a shift in customer priorities. While contract flexibility was the most valued quality in 2023, the expertise in security and AI has surged to the forefront in 2024. The demand for comprehensive security solutions has seen a significant rise, with more than a quarter (27%) of customers preferring a single vendor for their security needs, representing a 10% increase from the previous year.

The methodology of the survey involved gathering insights from 1,577 managers, c-level executives, and security specialists at MSPs and MSSPs across several countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Australia. The respondents represented a diverse array of organisations, ranging in size from 50 to over 5,000 employees.
