Tech Data acquires Orca Technology to boost IT security in ANZ
Tech Data, a subsidiary of TD SYNNEX, has announced its acquisition of Orca Technology, an independent value-added distributor with a focus on the IT security sector in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). This move, effective immediately, aims to strengthen Tech Data's IT security capabilities through expanded technical knowledge, solutions, and portfolio offerings.
Orca Technology, which was established in 2017 by Martin Christmas and Jack Sabo, has earned considerable recognition in the industry, including being named the fourth fastest-growing technology company in Deloitte Technology's 2020 Fast 50 Australia. The company specialises in providing sales, technical, and marketing services to resellers, representing best-of-breed products in the IT security marketplace across ANZ.
Jaideep Malhotra, President of TD SYNNEX in Asia Pacific and Japan, expressed enthusiasm over the acquisition. "We are thrilled to welcome Orca Tech into the Tech Data and TD SYNNEX family. With this acquisition, we are expanding our IT Security portfolio and capabilities, delivering higher value to our customers and partners in ANZ. Orca Tech has built a strong reputation as a trusted IT security specialist and has a proven track record of success. Together, we will create new opportunities for growth and innovation in the fast-growing IT security market," said Malhotra.
This acquisition marks a significant enhancement of Tech Data's existing security competencies, vendors, and partners. Orca Tech's specialised focus on security and deep technical knowledge will complement Tech Data's offerings. Notably, the partnership will see the introduction of hyperscaler marketplaces with AWS and Microsoft through Tech Data's StreamOne Ion platform, aiming to streamline cloud transitions for vendors and partners. Additionally, Tech Data plans to offer enhanced security and cloud services, leveraging its Centre of Excellence environments and Practice Builder toolsets.
Craig Ashwood, General Manager of Orca Tech, also shared his optimism about the future. "At Orca Tech, we are excited for the new opportunities in the journey ahead—from the ability to expand our offerings to existing vendors and partners, to the increase in scale that brings new and exciting developmental opportunities for employees in both companies," Ashwood said. "We believe that the synergies developed from both organisations scaling their know-how and capabilities will be a boon for the entire IT channel ecosystem across the value chain, from vendors to partners and end-customers."
The acquisition is aligned with Tech Data's strategic objective of becoming the leading value-added distributor in several key technology segments, including IT security, cloud, analytics, and artificial intelligence, within the ANZ region.
Overall, the integration of these two entities is anticipated to drive significant growth and innovation in the IT security sector, both in Australia and New Zealand. The combined expertise and capabilities are expected to offer substantial benefits to customers, partners, vendors, and the overall IT channel ecosystem.
