Telecom increases capacity for Big Day Out

Fri, 21st Jan 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Telecom has sent word out that it has deploying more capacity than it did last year for today’s Big Day Out music event at Mount Smart stadium in Auckland.

“We've beefed up our XT network around Mount Smart for the Big Day Out, deploying more capacity than last year,” the company said.

There should now be no problem receiving drunk phone calls from friends / colleagues at the event, determined to let you hear Tool or Iggy in real time.

"The extra XT capacity will help Big Day Out punters stay connected, as well as businesses and residents in the area," Telecom added.

Update: Vodafone, Tweeting in tongues, has said: "installation of COWS (Cellsites on wheels), tuning network to give priority to certain services (calls etc)".

Update 2: Telecom has Tweeted that its XT network is working "10x as hard as usual" in Mt Smart / Penrose area seeing 1GB of data and over 20k texts so far.
