Telecom Retail reshuffle - Updated

Tue, 25th May 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The restructure has been put in place following high profile departures which include director of home services Ralph Brayham, head of mobile Paul Hamburger and director of brand and marketing Craig Herbison.

In addition, Telecom CEO Paul Reynolds announced last month that as part of cost-cutting measures 200 roles in Telecom will be disestablished. According to spokesperson Nick Brown each business unit has targets proportionate to its size and for Retail that equates to about 50 roles. Staff cuts will not be in the front line of customer service – that is the contact centre or the retail stores. There are over 2200 people who work for Telecom Retail.

The cuts coincide with a new management structure, as Brown explains: “Rather than grouping our retail teams around particular product sets the business will be grouped around key functions such as Product Development & Management, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service and Support – and teams will work across all product sets.”

The roles in the retail senior management team reporting to Telecom Retail CEO Alan Gourdie are:

GM Market Strategy – Judy Newcombe

GM Marketing – Kieren Cooney

GM Sales – Victoria Crone

GM Customer Service – Trish Keith

GM Human Resources – Jan O’Neill

General Counsel – Grant Fraser

CFO – Greg McAlister

The newly appointed Kieran Cooney, who was recruited to take over from Paul Hamburger, has been involved in the management restructure. His role will now cover marketing, not just for mobile but all product and customer segments.

As part of the process Craig Herbison, who was instrumental in creating Telecom’s new logo, announced he would be leaving the company at the end of June, a decision which Gourdie says he respects.
