Juniper Networks has begun to upgrade Telecom New Zealand International’s global network and increase the number of international points of presence.

The upgrade extends TNZI’s ability to deliver internet telephony and will also increase the number of call minutes the telco can carry.

Telecom said that its previous network didn’t allow it to “cost-effectively expand into new geographies”, which limited the company’s growth potential.

“In the global internet telephony market, the more points of presence you have, the better your ability to compete,” said Anthony Briscoe, General Manager, TNZI.  “For us to grow our business by increasing the number of minutes we carry, we needed to expand our footprint. Juniper Networks provided the most robust, scalable, secure and cost-effective infrastructure for us to be able to do just that.”
