Telecom’s CDMA network closes midnight tonight
Tue, 31st Jul 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Telecom’s customers have been given a final reminder to switch mobile networks with the company’s CDMA service set to close at midnight tonight.

The telecommunications firm has been increasing public awareness of the change since announcing their new XT network over a year ago, with CDMA customers will no longer be able to make or receive calls (including 111 emergency calls), send texts or use mobile data as of tomorrow.

“Our stores have been very busy over the last few weeks, and we thank those customers who made the switch early on,” said Chris Quin, Telecom’s acting chief executive officer.

“With the amount of communication we have sent to customers and had in the market, we feel we have covered as many bases as possible to inform customers.

“We still encourage remaining customers to move to XT by visiting one of our Telecom stores, as there are great value deals available exclusively to CDMA customers until tomorrow.

“We would like to advise customers that after the closure they may still see coverage bars on their device while we work to power down the network over the next few weeks.

“However it’s important for customers to know that the network will not be live, and will not work for voice calls (including 111 emergency calls), text and mobile data.

“Customers should also be aware that we can’t guarantee their individual mobile number will be available after 31 July 2012.”

Customers can check if they are on the CDMA network by calling *333 and for further information on the network closure click here
