Trend Micro endorses anti-malware 'live testing'

Tue, 29th Sep 2009
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Rather than using testing techniques that do not test computers against the latest threats coming from the internet, the anti-malware testing methodology created by NSS labs measures how antivirus products stack up against real threats.

NSS Labs first measures the antivirus detection and blocking of threats based on URL source and also measures the time delay between when a security vendor is first aware of a potential new threat and when protection from that threat is available at customer endpoints. Dave Patnaik, Managing Director of Trend Micro ANZ, said that while Trend Micro is happy that its software performed well, it also looks forward to advances in real-world tests that better fit customer’s needs.

“The focus of third party testing should be on protection for the customers, which extends far beyond simple detection,” Patnaik. Chart provided by NSS Labs.
