TUANZ Member Awards honour tech leaders & innovators

The TUANZ Member Awards took place in Auckland, spotlighting notable figures and innovations within the tech industry. The event aligns with the TUANZ Tech Users Summit and aims to celebrate both innovation and longstanding contributions.

Hon. Judith Collins KC, Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, presented the awards. Each award recognised outstanding achievements across multiple categories, including community initiatives, technology solutions, journalism, and leadership.

The Invercargill Initiative – Te Rourou was awarded Community Initiative of the Year. The Technology Initiative of the Year went to a joint effort by Ericsson and 2degrees for their Sustainable Network project. Derrick Edward from Air New Zealand was recognised as Outstanding Future Leader, while Lee Jansen of Enable Networks received the award for Outstanding Leader in the User Community. The accolade for Technology Journalist of the Year was given to Nona Pelletier from Radio NZ.

In addition to the competitive categories, the evening included recognising individuals who have dedicated significant efforts to the digital and technology sectors. TUANZ honoured Don Wallace, and Ernie Newman, the inaugural Life Members inducted in 2023. This year, Judy Speight was introduced as the 2024 Life Member inductee.

TUANZ Board Chair Tristan Ilich presented the Chair's Award. Recipients included Graham Mitchell, CEO of Crown Infrastructure Partners, and Kris Dempster-Rivett, known for his advocacy in digital equity and his role in Tech Tutu.

Craig Young, CEO of TUANZ, commented on the importance of such recognitions by stating, "It is our privilege to honour those who have contributed tirelessly to TUANZ and the broader digital landscape in Aotearoa, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements."

The TUANZ Member Awards were established as part of the Telecommunications Users Association of New Zealand's (TUANZ) ongoing efforts to recognise excellence and innovation in the technology sector. Aligned with the annual TUANZ Tech Users Summit, the awards celebrate both emerging talents and longstanding contributors who have shaped the digital and telecommunications landscape in New Zealand.

The TUANZ Member Awards in Auckland acknowledged the achievements and contributions of individuals and organisations within the technology industry. By highlighting innovation, leadership, and community impact, the event reinforced the significance of collaboration and dedication in advancing New Zealand's digital landscape.
