Twitter crashes on Olympics eve
With a surge of traffic expected during the London 2012 Olympics, popular social networking site Twitter crashed for the third time in over a month this morning.
Users were left speechless as a disruption in service caused the site to crash for an hour, leading to fears of similar problems when the Games begin on Saturday morning NZT.
A statement on the microblogging website said: "Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue."
The outage caused tweeters to take to alternative sites to vent their frustration and will raise concerns around whether they are capable of corralling the millions of tweets expected to be sent in the next fortnight by athletes, fans and personalities.
Twitter reported similar issues on June 19 and June 21 and will be desperate to avoid a repeat with increased activity expected on the networking site.
