Udemy launches GenAI features for International Day of AI

Wed, 15th May 2024

International Day of AI is a day dedicated to celebrating and reflecting on the significant impact artificial intelligence is having on learning and professional development. This year's focus is particularly vital as a recent BCG study indicates that 55% of tech professionals believe generative AI (GenAI) will play a crucial role in their career advancement.

In response to this growing demand for AI-related skills and knowledge, Udemy, a prominent online learning platform, has announced the launch of several GenAI-enabled features designed to enhance upskilling, personalisation, and skills development. The platform's new features aim to meet the pressing needs of modern learners and organisations alike.

Peter Kokkinos, Senior Vice President of Global Customer Success at Udemy, is spearheading the initiative. He commented on the importance of the new features, stating, "Empowering professionals with the knowledge and skills to thrive in an AI-driven world is crucial. Given that 48% of employees feel their executives are prepared to lead GenAI initiatives, there is no better time to upskill with Udemy."

Among the new features being introduced is the Udemy AI Learning Assistant. This tool is designed to help learners find the most relevant content using natural language search terms and specific learning objectives. It provides personalised feedback, concise responses to course-related questions, and links to pertinent lectures to facilitate faster comprehension.

Another notable introduction is the Udemy AI Skills Mapping tool. This feature enables organisations to identify skill gaps within their teams and match employees with tailored courses that align with the company's strategic goals. This targeted approach ensures that training is both relevant and effective.

To further support diverse professionals and leaders in their understanding of generative AI, Udemy has also launched the GenAI Skills Pack. This curated collection of courses is designed to cater to a range of roles and expertise levels, helping participants deepen their understanding of GenAI.

The launch of these features aligns with Udemy's mission to empower learners, organisations, and instructors by providing personalised learning paths that validate the competitive skills essential for career growth. The Intelligent Skills Platform is particularly noteworthy as it integrates learning into existing workflows, ensuring that new skills can be applied more swiftly and effectively.

Founded in 2010 by Eren Bali, Gagan Biyani, and Oktay Caglar, Udemy has rapidly evolved into one of the world's largest online learning platforms. Originally conceived as an open marketplace for anyone to share their knowledge and expertise, Udemy has since expanded its offerings to encompass a vast array of courses spanning countless subjects and disciplines. With a mission to democratise education and make learning accessible to all, Udemy has empowered millions of learners worldwide to upskill, reskill, and pursue their passions on their own terms.

As the tech industry continues to evolve, the need for upskilling and staying current with emerging technologies like AI is more critical than ever. Udemy's latest innovations aim to bridge the gap between learning and practical application, ensuring that learners are well-equipped to navigate and succeed in an AI-driven world.
