VHA cuts 500 jobs in restructure

Tue, 30th Oct 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

VHA will slash around 500 jobs across Australia over the next three weeks as the firm battles to restore its fortunes.

Believed to represent 10% of the overall workforce, VHA, who operates the Vodafone and 3 brand in Australia, has suffered declining revenues with the company losing 178,000 customers in the half-year to June 30.

The restructure will involve reducing the number office roles across the country, including eliminating “non- essential costs” such as its cricket sponsorship, and refocusing investment priorities.

VHA told CommsDay that while the 500 figure was a “fair estimate" for the job losses, the firm was yet to officially confirm the number of job cuts.

“People haven’t been told about their outcomes yet so there’s sensitivity around trying to get into the detail that we haven’t shared with our own staff, that’s something we’ll have to manage,” VHA said.

“Secondly, there are different buckets where these numbers are coming from; we have a bunch of external providers who in some in- stances will come in house.

"So we’ll grow in some areas and then we’ll cut in areas that don’t make sense when we’re 10% less in customers and 20% less in revenue.”

The job cuts will occur before the end of November, VHA confirmed.
